ABOUT ARLINGTON HEIGHTS
The Village of Arlington Heights is a suburb of Chicago located in Cook County in Illinois. Arlington Heights is located about 25 miles from downtown Chicago. The southeast village limits of Arlington Heights near Lynn Court, south of Briarwood Drive are about 2.7 miles from the city limits of Chicago at O'Hare International Airport. The far north village limits are at Lake Cook Road -- at the border of Cook County and Lake County.
Arlington Heights lies mostly in the west side of Wheeling Township, with territory in adjacent Elk Grove and Palatine townships. The village is about 16.4 square miles with a population density of a about 4,633/square mile. Population in 2000 was 76,031.
TRAINS
Arlington Heights has two Metra train stations -- one in downtown Arlington Heights at 45 West Northwest Highway, and one at Arlington Park Racetrack at 2121 West Northwest Highway. The Metra-Union Pacific Northwest Line runs through Arlington Heights, passing from Chicago's Ogilvie Transportation Center to Harvard, Illinois.
A third train station is under consideration as part of Metra's propsed STAR line. The line would be an elevated train line located at the medial of Interstate 90 at about Arlington Heights Road.
MAIN ROADWAYS
Arlington Heights includes one interstate -- Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tolllway), which connects Arlington Heights to Chicago and eastern states to the east, and western suburbs and western states to the west.
Arlington Heights includes six state routes -- Route 12, Route 14, Route 53, Route 58, Route 62, and Route 68.
Route 12 (Rand Road in Arlington Heights) runs northwest-southeast on the north central side of the village.
Route 14 (Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights) runs northwest-southeast in central Arlington Heights near downtown Arlington Heights and the Metra-Union Pacific northwest line.
Route 53 (northern extension of Interstate 290) runs along the western edge of the village and connects to Lake County, Buffalo Grove, Long Grove and Palatine to the north and Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and west suburbs (I-355) to the south. Route 53 connects to Chicago via I-290 and the Eisenhower Expressway into Chicago.
Arlington Heights Road is the major north-south roadway, which is at least four lanes through the entire length of the village.
Routes nearby include Route 72, which runs east-west to the south; and Route 83, which runs north-south just to the east of Arlington Heights.
