Transformer Fire Near Walgreens at Arlington Heights Rd and Lillian Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:03 AM Friday, December 21, 2018 to a report from ComEd that a transformer was on fire at Arlington Heights Road and Lillian Avenue behind Walgreens.

Firefighters received a report of a transformer explosion Thursday night, but no fire was showing last night. The area of power outage was unknown.

Property Damage Crash at Kennicott Ave and Dundee Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 10:20 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 to a property damage crash involving two vehicles in the intersection at Kennicott Avenue and Dundee Road.

Groot Refuse Schedule Change for Christmas and New Year's; Christmas Tree Pickup

As usual during a holiday, the refuse collection schedule will change for single-family residences served by GROOT, the Village of Arlington Heights' courteous and reliable service provider.

CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE
Collection services during the week of December 24, 2018 will change to the following schedule:

If your collection day is Monday ...
there will be no changes.

If your collection day is Tuesday ...
garbage & recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, December 26.

If your collection day is Thursday ...
garbage & recycling will be picked up on Friday, December 28.

If your collection day is Friday...
garbage & recycling will be picked up on Saturday, December 29.

NEW YEAR'S SCHEDULE
Collection services during the week of December 31, 2018 will change to the following schedule:

there will be no changes.

If your collection day is Tuesday ...
garbage & recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, January 2.

If your collection day is Thursday ...

Christmas trees will be picked up on your normal collection day from December 31 - January 11.  Christmas trees do not require a landscape waste sticker, but plastic bags must be removed.

Transformer Explosion Near Walgreens at Arlington Heights Rd and Lillian…

Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:02 PM Thursday, December 20, 2018 to a report of a transformer explosion in the area of Arlington Heights Road and Lillian Avenue.

Firefighters on arrival did not initially see any problem in the area, and reported no power outage by 6:22 pm.

Water Main Break Olive St West of Douglas Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights public works received a report about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday December 18, 2018 of a water main break on Olive Street west of Douglas Avenue on the south side of the Olive Street. The water main break was repaired the same night.

The best practice is to avoid drinking water in the neighborhood of a water break because low pressure conditions in the broken pipe can cause harmful contaminants to be drawn into the break in the pipe, and possibly cause harmful contaminants to enter the drinking water supply locally.
